The much-anticipated Hayden Oration is set to make its return this year with special guest speaker, the Honourable Dr Jim Chalmers MP, Treasurer of Australia.

Jennifer Howard MP, the Member for Ipswich, has held the Hayden Oration on four previous occasions with addresses given by the Hon Dr David Hamill AM (2016), the Hon Paul Keating (2017), the Hon Neal Blewett AC (2018), and the late Hon Susan Ryan AO (2019).

The Hayden Oration pays homage to the incredible legacy of former Australian Parliamentarian and Governor-General, the Hon Bill Hayden AC, who left an indelible mark on Australian politics and political discourse.

Ms Howard is pleased to have the Treasurer as the keynote speakers for this year’s Hayden Oration’s address.

After the Hayden Oration’s hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, Ms Howard said she is excited to see the event return this year.

"We've been fortunate to host remarkable keynote speakers at the Hayden Oration in previous years who’ve given thought-provoking speeches on Labor’s historic legacy of progressive policies while in government.

“Having Australia’s current Treasurer come to Ipswich to address this year’s Hayden Oration will be a continuation of this great tradition.

“Jim Chalmers is a widely respected figure in Australian politics with a remarkable resumé,” said Ms Howard.

“He’s been the Member for Rankin since 2013, worked for former Treasurer Wayne Swan during the GFC, has a PhD in political science, and has written two books.

“In these times of economic uncertainty, Jim’s experience and insights into our nation’s economy will ensure that this year’s Hayden Oration will be one you won’t want to miss,” said Ms Howard.

The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers will appear at the Hayden Oration on Friday 10th November 2023 at the TAFE Queensland Ipswich Campus in Bundamba. For more information, please visit Jennifer Howard's official Facebook page.
